Rock Creek Engineering was established in 2020 with the mission of helping clients in the Northern Arizona community achieve their project goals. We are dedicated to being the highest quality, small project engineering firm in the region. While larger firms may not be willing to propose on residential scale projects, Rock Creek prides itself on providing reliable service for homeowners, developers and municipalities alike.

Kai Kaoni PE, MBA


Principal

Kai started his engineering career in 2004 as a wastewater design intern for Robbins Engineering. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in 2007 with a BS in Civil Engineering. At that time, he transitioned to a larger consulting firm where he specialized in commercial/subdivision engineering including site design, grading, drainage and hydrology. In 2011, he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University. Following his graduate degree, he begin working in the construction field as a project engineer, estimator and project manager for a Flagstaff based general contractor. He completed several large projects in the region for municipal and private clients. Beginning in 2015, Kai found his passion as an educator, joining the civil engineering and construction management faculty at Northern Arizona University. Douglas Slover Jr

PE, CFM


Principal

Douglas started his engineering path with Environmental Hydrosystems in Fall of 2007 while attending his Senior year at Northern Arizona University.  As an NAU graduate in 2008, with a BS in Civil Engineering, he made Flagstaff his permanent home. Since then, he has worked in the engineering field with projects throughout all of northern Arizona. Over his engineering career he has specialized in design and development of wet utility infrastructure, including water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and onsite (decentralized) wastewater design.  His roles within civil engineering projects includes project management, project design (from concept realization to construction documents), and construction management (from contract management to inspection services). Todd Lanese


Chief Inspector

Bringing a deep background in sustainable design/construction, Todd provides field inspection and testing services for clients around Northern Arizona. His education includes a BS in Urban planning from Miami University and graduate studies in Environmental Planning at Cleveland State University. Todd has worked on numerous projects involving stormwater infrastructure, water reuse, alternative construction methods and sanitation systems. As a master builder, he designed and constructed his Prescott residence utilizing straw bales, recycled materials, rainwater catchment, underfloor radiant heating and thermal mass walls.

His keen attention to detail will add value to your project as he performs all of RCE’s soils and construction inspections. With a customer-centric focus, he will ensure a successful project from concept to completion. Todd is a certified inspector with the National Association of Wastewater Treatment (NAWT) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).

Ed Schenk


Lead Hydrologist

Ed's career in hydrology, drainage design, and project management started in 2005 as a research hydrologist with the USGS. Since then he has authored, or co-authored, over 40 scientific publications in river, wetland, and floodplain management and restoration. His current roles in Flagstaff include serving on the board of directors for the Friends of the Rio, working on springs hydrology in Northern Arizona, various surface water projects on the Colorado Plateau, and supporting Rock Creek Engineering on hydrology, FEMA floodplain compliance, drainage, grading, and general management of projects. He holds a MS in Environmental Science - Water Resources from Indiana University and a BA in Geology from Hanover College.
